When it comes to grocery shopping, finding a healthy yet tasty cereal can be a little time consuming. Especially if you’re like me and stopping to check each and every nutrition label.
I want the best in nutrition for my family BUT it also has to taste good because let’s face it, if it doesn’t taste mouthwatering, kids are more than likely not going to eat it.
General Mills has taken a little bit of the guesswork out of this weekly task by including a white “check mark” on their cereals that contain Whole Grain as the first ingredient. That means that these cereals contain more whole grain than any other ingredient.
WHERE TO FIND THE GM WHITE “CHECK MARK”:
Now I know what you’re thinking — when looking at the list above, a few of those probably wouldn’t be on your “radar” of whole grain cereals, right? Especially the Lucky Charms and Cinnamon Toast Crunch.
I mean we’ve tried nearly each and every one of those and seeing that the later two are our favorites, maybe because they taste so unhealthy, I was quite surprised to find that their main ingredient was whole grain. To be honest, now I don’t feel so guilty in serving these to my family. hehee!
We recently had the opportunity to try all 5 of the above listed General Mills cereals and I have to be honest here. The first thing I did after seeing the line up is flip the box and look at the nutrition labels to compare the group. I was pretty darned amazed when I found that each of these have nearly identical nutritional values including fat, and calories. No way, right? Yes way!
This goes to show… you can’t judge a food by it’s cover! It does pay to read the labels but thanks to General Mills, spotting the healthy choices in the cereal aisle is now even easier.
So what did we think of the whole grain-infused cereals? Well, first answer this question… “Can you see the difference in the Cinnamon Toast Crunch Cereal?” Click on the image if you need a closer look.
No? I didn’t think so.
And guess what. You don’t taste any difference either. The Cinnamon Toast Crunch is just as yummy as ever. It’s my favorite. Can you tell? hehee! I LOVE cinnamon and sugar together, which is why I figured this one HAD to be unhealthy but, it isn’t.

You’ll be navigating through virtual aisles and competing to locate and grab products that contain whole grain as the first ingredient. Be on the look out for that white check. They’re guaranteed to have it. Once you’re finished you’ll be entered to win 50+ boxes of General Mills cereals (that’s one of each box). Wow, that’s a lot of cereal!
The sweepstakes ends March 18, 2012.
