e.l.f. Cosmetics review & giveaway
I seriously do not know anyone who has not tried or at least heard of e.l.f. Cosmetics. If any of you have not heard of them or tried their products yet you really need to check them out. With the economy the way it is and so many people losing their jobs we are all finding we have to find ways to stretch our pennies as far as they will go.
For most women & teen girls, cosmetics is one staple that we just don’t want to do without. Women love to feel beautiful but with e.l.f. Cosmetics you don’t have to break the bank. They have lots of cosmetics and bath & body care items to choose from and they are very affordable. Most items they sell are priced at just $1. That’s amazing! The most expensive products on their site are the bath kits that sell for $15 but those contain a nice variety of bath & body products and are packaged in a lovely basket. They make a nice gift.
e.l.f. sent me 4 full size products that consist of Mineral Foundation makeup (light powder) with SPF 15, Hypershine Gloss in Sugar Plum, Waterproof Eyeliner Pen in Plum and Nail Polish in Medium Red.
e.l.f. Mineral Foundation
The Mineral Foundation powder is made of 100% natural minerals; Titanium Dioxide and Zinc Oxide and not only covers well on your skin but works as a sunscreen as well. There are no parabens, no preservatives and no chemical dyes. It lets your skin breathe for a beautiful experience you can see. I have very oily skin so the lighter the feel of the makeup, the better for me. Other products really feel cakey and clog my pores. With E.L.F. Mineral Foundation, I didn’t get that icky feeling. e.l.f. Mineral Foundation comes in 5 shades: Fair, Light, Warm, Dark and Deep. Priced at $5. (Does not include applicator).
e.l.f. Nail Polish in medium red
This nail polish offers a color-lock technology that creates a chip resistant shield for long lasting color. It’s infused with active Vitamin E for stronger, healthier nails. It is Toluene Free, Formaldehyde Free and Dibutyl Phthalate (DBP) Free. The formula is a little thin so I applied 3 coats with each use because I like a thicker appearance and long wear. It does dry quickly for a no mess application. You can use a top coat for added shine or just by itself. Since it’s key ingredients give nails a natural shine a top coat is not necessary unless you like a wet appearance. e.l.f. Nail Polish comes in 29 hot shades. Priced at $1 each.
e.l.f. Hypershine Gloss in Sugar Plum
I really loved the Hypershine Gloss. The applicator makes it extremely easy to apply to your lips. It contains a brush on one end and a turn-to-apply mechanism on the other end that pushes the gloss into the brush. The gloss is hypoallergenic and glides on smoothly. It gives your lips a wet, glass-like shine that is beautiful, and sheer. The sugar plum tastes yummy too. This can be used alone or over other lip products. e.l.f. Hypershine Gloss comes in 10 fabulous and juicy shades. Priced at $1 each.
e.l.f. Waterproof Eyeliner Pen
If you like a clean, straight line eyeliner, you’ll love this product! It glides on smoothly with it’s narrow pointed tip. Don’t worry about smudges with this one. It gives you a clean line that does not budge. It’s waterproof and I love that. Who wants to have raccoon eyes? If you have a problem with watery eyes or need a liner that is strong enough to withstand tears, give this one a try. You can have the finest lines by applying with a light touch or a much bolder line by applying more pressure. Removal is easy, use a water based makeup remover. e.l.f. Waterproof Eyeliner Pen comes in 5 different shades: Coffee, Black, Midnight, Ash, and Plum. Priced at $1 each.

Prevention is better than cure, they say. It’s all well and good curing a hangover, but wouldn’t it be better not to have it in the first place?
Here’s some quit tips to help you celebrate without the worries of that awful “next morning” feeling:
- Know your limits. 75% of people who drink to intoxication will have a hangover the next day. The number of drinks it takes to reach a state of intoxication varies from person to person. Don’t have more than 3 drinks in 1-2 hours, and no more than 5 drinks in one night. Women and people of Asian descent might want to consider having a little less because they are more susceptible to hangovers. Women tend to have a lower metabolic rate due to a higher ratio of body fat and Asians tend to have lower levels of alcohol dehydrogenase, an enzyme that breaks down alcohol.
- Eat before drinking so alcohol isn’t absorbed as quickly.
- Drink a glass of milk before alcohol. It coats the lining of your stomach and slows the absorption of alcohol.
- Choose light liquors (vodka, gin) over dark liquors (brandy, whiskey). They have fewer congeners, which contribute to hangovers. Overall, drinks with more chemicals produce worse hangovers. Red wine is one of the worst culprits. A study found that hangover symptoms varied by the type of alcohol consumed: (in order of decreasing severity) brandy, red wine, rum, whisky, white wine, gin, vodka, and pure ethanol.
- Stick with noncarbonated mixers. Carbonated drink mixers accelerate alcohol absorption.
- Choose less concentrated drinks. Beer is better than shots of whiskey, for example.
- Stick with one type of alcohol. Variety is not the spice of life in terms of a hangover.
- Stay hydrated. Alcohol makes you urinate more, which can lead to dehydration. Drink water or sports drinks before, during, and after drinking alcohol. The processes that break down alcohol also produce lactic acid and other chemicals that interfere with the production of glucose (sugar) and electrolytes; that’s why sports drinks are a good idea. Don’t drink caffeinated beverages – those make you urinate more, too. Have one glass of water after each drink. It keeps you hydrated and can also slow your alcohol consumption.
- Be happy. Research suggests that guilt about drinking, a neurotic personality, becoming angry or depressed while drinking, and having suffered “negative life events” in the past 12 months are better predictors of symptoms of hangover than how much or what you drink!

For those who wait until after December 15th to shop, it might be time to get the gift for that hard-to-shop-for person or that relative who has it all. What’s hot and available when time is down to the wire? Here are some ideas for holiday crunch-time shopping success.

- Give a financial gift. Money, CDs and savings bonds are all good ideas that keep on giving, especially for kids and young adults who are establishing themselves in the world. Plus, there are clever holders and cards to package your gift and make it fun. Sure, these gifts are a bit redolent of your grandparents’ generation, but this gift category has remained popular for a reason.
- Get an assortment of herb and spice plants and box them creatively to give someone a personal fresh herb garden. Home Depot always has herb plants in bloom; the local supermarket may also sell them in the horticulture section. They are easy to maintain and perfect for the chefs among your loved ones.
- Purchase theater tickets for a hot event. You can make the purchase for a date several months in the future, saving everyone involved from having to schedule-crunch. If you do this for a child, though, be ready to make some speedy explanations. They just might wonder how Santa knew a specific was going to take place & where.
- Go to your nearest art store and purchase something that’s truly special and rare. These stores often stock one-of-a-kind gifts that will bring a smile to your recipient’s face. These shops are terrific for scarves, hats, jewelry and housewares. Plus, you’re helping to keep a small business kicking during a rough economy. If going to a boutique isn’t a possibly, drop by Etsy and take advantage of the large number of sellers that offer expedited shipping. This is also a great way to get an expensive-looking gift for a small amount of cash.
- Sign the person up for a subscription gift service. For foodies, there’s Bacon of the Month; shoe lovers can find nirvana at Kim Kardashian’s ShoeDazzle or J. Crew’s Shoe of the Month Club. For men, J. Crew also offers a Tie of the Month club. Although these seem like pricey options, they truly aren’t; many include options for three, six or 12 months, not just the whole year.
- Assemble items with a common theme in a bag and throw a bow on it. These could be an assortment of mp3 accessories (headphones, speakers, slipcovers and a gift card for music), childhood toys (travel-sized board games and Mad Libs books), or retro-style jewelry and hair clips. Many of these gifts can be pulled together on the cheap in one store location. The larger quantity of gifts will look pleasing to the eye, and you’ll save lots of time.
- Appeal to their tastebuds if you’re truly stuck at the zero hour. Chocolate, liquor and cigars usually go over well, as does a gooey dessert or bottle of perfume. For this, remember that packaging is everything; even Hersey bars seem more delicious if wrapped in a cool bag or box.

The scents I received are Vanilla Wild Plum, Mandarin Honey, and Grapefruit Surprise. Each bottle of hair & body wash lasted through approximately 5 cleanings. I did not use these on my hair.
I started off with the body scrub. It’s best to use both gloves together because you can get those hard to reach places such as your back and shoulders much easier when both gloves are worn rather than having to use one per side and switching off and on. It works great on the rough skin that tends to build up on the bottoms of your feet. I followed that with the body wash. Just a dab the size of a nickle was all I needed with a pouf. A little goes a long way. Poufs really make a shower gel or body wash last longer than an ordinary wash cloth. After bathing & drying I used a small amount of the body lotion and I have to say this little kit makes my skin feel soft, smooth & well moisturized. My husband could smell the scent from the products before I entered the room.
The Vanilla Wild Plum has a sweet Plum scent that smells good enough to eat. The Grapefruit Surprise has an eye opening citrus scent. I have not tried the Mandarin Honey as of yet but I am quite sure it smells divine.
The spa kits retail for $18 each and last for about 5 uses. The gloves are reusable.
Other available scents are Eucamint for stress relief, Cherry Bing, Papaya Star, Lemon Dream, Cool for a fresh minty splash, Exotic Mango that’s a blend of mango and tropical temptations, Lime Zest, Pomagranate Lime, and White Tea that gives a soothing relaxing white tea escape.

Family gatherings don’t have to set off arguments. Learn how to defuse them before they even start.
Sometimes it seems almost inevitable: You gather a large group of family members together, and before you know it, the arguments have started. Whether it’s a petty little tiff or a full-blown food fight, there are steps you can take to stop the fighting before it even starts.
Count to 10
Did Aunt Diane inadvertently insult your child-rearing methods again? It may sound old-fashioned, but before you react, take time out to count to 10. You might be surprised to realize you aren’t really that upset once you slow down and gather your thoughts. And at the very least, you can then take time to craft a careful comeback, rather than spout something in the heat of the moment.
Call a Truce
Avoid hot-button topics. If your family has a long-standing argument or certain issues that can’t be discussed without tempers flaring (politics, sports), declare a truce before the holiday gathering. Don’t allow the topic to be discussed, and if someone brings it up, quickly change the subject.
Stand Alone Time
The holidays are all about family, but that doesn’t mean you won’t start to feel crowded or trapped, which can lead to feelings of anxiety. Take time out each day to reconnect with just yourself—try going for a quick walk or taking a half-hour to relax and read a book or magazine.

Things might not go exactly how you thought, or how you planned, but the key is not to stress or worry. Just go with the flow and try to keep your sense of humor about it all. After all, which is more important: Your son visiting with his grandma, or making the perfect, lump-free gravy?

Women today come in many shapes; curvy, skinny, round, strawberry, and the list is ongoing. Jean Vague, a French physician in the 1950’s first brought the idea of the four main body types; fashion designers have come up with as many as twelve.
The standard apple, pear, hourglass and rectangle (also known as a banana) body shapes have stood the test of time. Easily determine your body shape to develop an appropriate workout or clothing style to compliment your figure naturally.
All of us ladies have learned a lesson or two on how to camoflauge our imperfections but wouldn’t you like to know how to find that perfect outfit for your specific shape? Here are some helpful tips on how to do that.
- Undress completely and stand in front of the mirror. I know, this may not be a pretty sight but hey, no one is watching! If you wish, you may wear form fitting leggings and tank top; you need to be able to see your body shape without any loose clothing getting in the way.
- Stand in front of the mirror. Concentrate on the upper body which consists of the bust, arms, and shoulders. You will also focus on the lower part of the body which consists of the waist, thighs and buttocks.
- Notice whether there is a well-defined waist or mid-section. Apple shaped women will see that their upper body is noticeably larger than their bottom half.
- Determine if the chest and arms are noticeably smaller than the lower body, which indicates a pear shape form. The hips, buttocks and thighs will be larger than the upper body. A majority of women fall into this body shape.
- Hourglass shaped women are very curvy with a well defined waist. A larger bust and bottom with a clear indentation at the waist, fits this body shape.
- For bodies that are basically a straight up and down figure, with little to no curves or indentations and possibly a small bust, you are a rectangle/banana shape.
- Decide and shop for clothing based on your body shape in order to minimize and maximize the sections you wish to enhance.

I was really unsure what to expect from this product but I was pleasantly surprised. I was WOWed! No wonder they chose that name. It truly fits. It made me say “WOW” the first time I heard it. You really can tell the difference while using this software. It makes a huge difference. I played around with it, flipping between Classical, Custom, Jazz, Rock, Blues and other features to find the sound I liked the best. You can actually hear the sound change each time you change the preset settings. Turn it off and you will see, the cheap tinny sound comes back. Or at least it did on my cheap speakers.
Can’t afford expensive speakers for your desktop or laptop computer? No problem. SRS iWOW makes even the cheapest speakers sound as though you paid a lot more. It gives them a heftier sound. Crisp and clear. It makes your music sound more natural, immersive and detailed.

EcoStore USA review & giveaway
EcoStore USA has been gracious enough to send me some of their environmentally friendly household cleaning products. Everyone knows that purchasing natural and organic products can be quite expensive but EcoStore USA has found a way around this by safely super-concentrating each formulation. That means a little goes a long way thus saving all of us money by significantly cutting down our cost per use. Now isn’t that amazingly wonderful of them? Here’s some of the wonderful products I tested:
Ingredients

I was given the opportunity to try the Laundry Liquid & the Auto Dish Powder and I have to say these are great products! The Laundry Liquid detergent has a fresh pine scent that lasts even after the wash and dry cycle. It leaves your clothes smelling so clean. I have hard water and it’s hard to find a product that actually leaves our laundry smelling fresh and clean after washing. EcoStore USA Laundry Liquid definitely does that. I can honestly say I wasn’t expecting it to work so well but I am pleasantly surprised by the results and I believe you will be too.
Many people second guess eco-friendly products and feel they lack the cleaning power of other products because eco-friendly products are made with natural ingredients. Well, they will be pleasantly surprised when they use EcoStore USA products. I was surprised and I am very happy that I had the chance to try them. Don’t let the price turn you off either. A little bit goes a long way here. You only need 1 1/2 – 3 tablespoons of the Laundry Liquid (depending on how soiled your laundry is) for your front load washers & 3 – 5 tbsps. for top load washers in order to get clean, fresh smelling laundry.
The second product I tried, the Auto Dish Powder, worked just as well as other harsher products but without all of the toxic chemicals. Now why wouldn’t you want to use a safer cleanser that not only cleans your dishes well but protects your family from unwanted, possibly life threatening side effects? And it is gentler on the environment. I can feel good about having clean dishes & laundry, a healthier family and better earth by using EcoStore USA products.
These products were used in conjunction with other products I typically use during the wash/rinse/dry cycles of my clothes washer/dryer and dishwasher such as fabric softener, bleach and or a rinse agent. Eden Fantasys review & giveaway

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and Nicole from Eden Fantasys contacted me to review one of their products. At first I was a bit hesitant because I wasn’t sure what type of product she wanted reviewed but after giving it some thought and looking through all of the lovely lingerie they had to offer I said “yes”.
She let me choose the product and I chose the lovely, feminine, yet sexy red satin and lace gown. I thought it was the perfect choice for the upcoming holiday. The holiday meant for love and romance ~ Valentine’s Day!
What better product to review than lingerie? I thought it was perfect. The only thing that you could have done to make this review more perfect would have been to add a box of chocolates, a glass of wine and a hot bubble bath. lol
Eden Fantasy’s was extremely quick in shipping my gown. I received it within two days. That is some awesome shipping! And I was very pleased with the look of the gown after removing it from the pretty hot pink colored tissue paper. At first I was worried about the length of the gown when I held it up to my 5′ 3″ frame but once I tried it on I was very content.
The red gown is made of a stretchy, satin fabric and has lacy panels running down the front. It lace does expose the breasts but the satiny fabric nearly hides everything else. It also has a deep plunging neckline. It really provides a nice, shape flattering appearance.
Very feminine and sexy! If you have some love handles that you don’t want to “share”, this gown would be perfect for you. With the little “peep show” going on up top, your man would not even be paying attention to what’s going on anywhere else.
The length is perfect too. It’s long and flowing and gives the appearance of longer, leaner legs. And it sways just a little when you walk. The material is light and very comfortable unlike some lingerie I’ve worn. Some of the lacy ones tend to be itchy. This one is not.
I hand washed my gown in cold water & added fabric softener, then hung it to air dry. It held it’s shape very well.
If you’re looking for a nice, comfortable, yet feminine and sexy gown that won’t fall apart in the wash, you will love this one! I am very happy with mine.
