Designer Catbox: An Attractive Discreet Kitty Potty

Posted in: FYI Articles,Household,Pets,Reviews |

Ew, what’s that smell? Oh yea, it’s the litter box. Yuck! No one really wants to see it and they sure don’t wanna smell it. With our two lovely bundles of fur it sure can get pretty smelly with one box. And honestly you should have one litter box per floor of your home. We have 3 floors when you add in our partially finished basement but we have only had one box. That’s not a good idea.

Although our home is pretty spacious and our litter box is in our master bathroom, there’s really nowhere else to put one where our kitties have the room to move around and without it being in the way. I know there are others out there experiencing the same problem or worse yet, living in tight quarters. So what happens when you’re stuck in that position, with nowhere to put a litter box? You certainly don’t want to put it in the kitchen so that your kitty is tracking litter all over, or out in the open for all to see and smell, right?

Well, I found the perfect solution to our problem and I know it will help you all too. The solution — Designer Catbox! What is it? Designer Catbox, first and foremost, is a company that designed a litterbox, made to look like a piece of attractive furniture that can be used nearly anywhere in your home.

From the outside a Designer Catbox appears to be a cabinet. Something similar to a cedar chest. But inside is a hidden litter pan for cats. There’s a doorway on one side of the cabinet where your kitties can enter and just inside is another doorway leading to the “potty” area.

We recently received a Designer Catbox in black. I don’t know who was more excited, me or my cats because after taking the pieces out of the box and attempting to assemble it, our cats were pacing back and forth and once 3 walls were up, our “Bella” was already climbing in. hehee. It’s like she knew what it was and who it was for. I tried to get a picture but once my camera was in hand, she rushed out. I don’t think she felt she was presentable for a picture at that moment. hahaa. Leave it to a female, right?

Here it is, partially finished. And yes, that’s “Bella” in the top corner of the pic. hahaa

The Designer Catbox arrives in several different pieces but is fairly simple to assemble. I asked my hubby to help me since it would be easier having someone hold the sides and he was able to tighten the screws better than me. hehee. All total, I believe it took about 20 minutes to put the cabinet together. All of the pieces were in the package, including a few extras (no we didn’t forget anything – hahaa) and everything went together quite well. The images included with the instructions really helped us put everything where it needed to go. Our kitties really thank us for that. hehee

The exterior doorway can be placed either on the left or right side, your choice. And the cabinet can be installed with or without the interior doorway. We installed ours with the interior doorway because it’s staggered from the exterior doorway, helping to prevent litter from being tracked outside of the box. It also prevents dogs and children from getting into the litter pan.

Here’s the finished product…

Although I love the whole cabinet and the fact that I can place it anywhere in my home, one of my favorite features is the lid. You were probably wondering just how you were supposed to get in there to clean the litter box, right? Well, the box doesn’t come with a fancy little bottle that says “Drink Me”. You’re not expected to shrink to get in there. hehee. Actually there is a lid, just like a cedar chest. Hey, it’s a convertible! hahaa

You lift the top of the cabinet from the front, there are hinges attaching the top to the back and there’s also a safety feature so little children don’t pinch their fingers. I love that!

Take a peek inside…

Oh, oops, sorry Miss Bella. Didn’t know you were in there. Gotcha again! hehee

As popular as the Designer Catbox has been, I think my kitties would enjoy having another one just to play or nap in. I could just toss a blankie or pillow in there and I’m sure they would love it. We decided to place our Designer Catbox in the bay window so “Bella” and “Mookie” can look out and stalk the birds. They love that! Now I want to make a custom fitting cushion to go on top so it will be a bit more comfy for the furballs.

How Does It Measure Up?

The Designer Catbox measures 29.1” W x 20.6” deep x 20.8” H and weighs 37.9 pounds.

The inside section for your litter pan measures 18.5″L x 15.25″W. It’s designed to fit a large pan.

And both doorways (exterior & interior) measure 7.5″ wide by 8″.

Did I mention there is a hook that’s included in the assembly package that can be used to place inside the cabinet wall? This is a great place to hang your litter scooper/sifter. Out of sight.

Tip: Although each cat box is a sturdy piece of furniture, it is not designed to be used as a seat. Sure kitties can perch on it but it’s not recommended that people sit atop it.

Cleaning Care ~

To clean the Designer Catbox, you can simply vacuum out any loose litter and wipe down the inside with a disinfecting wipe or damp sponge. Be care when removing litter to prevent scratching the finish.

BUY IT!

The Designer Catbox is available in a high gloss non-toxic white or black painted finish or espresso stain. The white and black catboxes retail for $139.99 and the espresso retails for $159.99. All 3 are currently on sale for a discounted price.

Each Designer Catbox comes with a stylish and elegant wainscoting design on the front panel.

We really love the design of the Designer Catbox. It’s very discreet for you and your kitties. No one would even know it was a litter box if you didn’t tell them. Or unless they saw the doorway. Ours is on the left and can’t be seen unless someone is coming in the back door. The interior wall helps to control odors too which is a huge plus. I highly recommend this product to anyone who has one or more cats. They’re very nice, very sturdy and look great!
