Everyone deserves a good nights sleep and that’s why when Novosbed offered to send us a queen-size memory foam mattress for review I was thrilled (yet a bit jealous at the same time).
The reason being, hubby and I have been wanting to replace our 13 year old saggy, non-supportive mattress for quite some time but because our 19 year old son Derek outgrew his little twin spring mattress long ago, it was only right to let him be the one to try out the Novosbed Aria Pillow-Top Memory Foam Mattress. Drool!!!
I’m a good mom, right? hehee! I mean although hubby and I would LOVE to snuggle up in a super comfy new bed (and wake up pain-free) I couldn’t let my son continue looking like “Goldie Locks” with his feet hanging way beyond his tiny little hard twin mattress. It just wouldn’t have been fair. So, I gave away this awesome opportunity for my baby boy.
I wish I had taken a picture of Derek when he first learned he was getting a new bed. Oh boy was he excited!
Now, I’ve received a lot of packages in my day but never have I EVER received one as unique as this one. Any other time we’ve had furniture delivered it’s been via a moving truck-style vehicle but this one came via FedEx and it was in a large rectangular box. Yes, I said box.
1.) Boxed 2.) All rolled up
3.) Unfolding the Aria 4.) Unfolded & sucking in air
(You can slightly see the pillows in the middle of the unfolded mattress)
When I first saw the size I was in shock. I expected an 11″ thick memory foam mattress to arrive in a much larger package. Nope, not this one. It’s compressed (air removed), wrapped in thick plastic, folded, and rolled up (in three protective layers). Then packed inside a cardboard box.
Just in case you were wondering, this process does nothing damaging to your mattress. Once you remove all the outer packing you’re left with a brand new, attractive and super comfortable mattress. I honestly prefer this method because it eliminates the possibility of your mattress being dragged across the ground and scuffed or soiled during the shipping process!
The Aria mattress & pillows within minutes of unwrapping!
I WILL say this baby weighs a hefty 89.2 pounds so getting it up a flight of stairs takes a bit of work and requires help. Thankfully Derek lifts weights daily, and he’s pretty darned strong so this was not a problem. He definitely earned it. hehee!
Unfortunately, although I pre-warned Derek about the arrival of his new mattress, he didn’t prepare his bedroom as well as I had hoped so we had some furniture to maneuver around. But, hubby and I managed and was able to get the mattress unwrapped and watched in anticipation as it slowly filled with air and plumped up to it’s normal size. It really didn’t take long at all. It was filling up before we got all of the plastic off. The Aria is totally ready for use in approximately 4-6 hours.
As an added bonus, he also received two new memory foam pillows. What a nice surprise! They were both rolled up with the mattress and just like the mattress, they didn’t take long to reach their maximum size. Don’t tell him but I couldn’t wait to lay down on the mattress to see what it was like. I’ve never owned a memory foam mattress, only spring mattresses and waterbeds. The Aria pillow-top memory foam mattress was dreamy. Oh my, I didn’t want to get up. Now I’m really jealous!
1.) All plumped up!
2.) It’s bedtime!
Wow, it’s time to iron that bedding. haha!
Since we were replacing an old twin size bed, hubby and I went out and purchased a queen foundation to accommodate Derek’s new mattress. Plus, we bought him a new frame, headboard, comforter set and sheets. His room is now all decked out in a totally new bed ensemble and it looks great— and of course it fits his frame much better too. No more “goldie locks” moments. haha! This big bear has a bed that’s fit for a king.
The Aria mattress is made up of 3 different layers— a 7″ (2 pound/ft3) support foam which includes a 2 pound dual layer with Novosbed Airflow Technology (called Novosflow), a 2″ (5.2 pound/ft3) premium memory foam, and a 2″ (4.1 pound/ft3) premium plush memory foam. All of which is encased inside a hypoallergenic ultra-soft velour microfiber quilted cover with non-slip bottom.
To give you an idea of what this mattress feels like, it has the density of a traditional memory foam (medium to soft). With the pillow-top you sink ever so slightly but not as if you’re sinking in quick sand. And once you get up from the mattress it quickly regains it’s shape within 1-1.5 seconds.
Getting out of the mattress is definitely not a problem. Even with my previous back and neck injuries I was easily able to maneuver and stand up without losing footing and I didn’t have to rock to get out either. hehee!
The Aria is midway between soft and firm. It’s not so firm that it feels like you’re sleeping on wet sand but it’s not so soft that you get no support or need assistance in getting out upon wakening. To be honest I really love it and am thinking seriously of talking hubby into getting one. Shh… I haven’t mentioned it just yet. With all of the Christmas shopping we’ve been doing, I didn’t think it was a good time to bring up spending the money. haha!
Ultimately Derek has the final say in this review. He’s been sleeping on the Aria Pillow-Top Memory Foam Mattress for a few weeks now and he’s been extremely pleased. He says this is the most comfortable mattress he’s ever experienced. He’s drifting off to sleep fairly quickly and waking up feeling refreshed. Plus, his back doesn’t hurt like it did when he slept in his little spring mattress. Oh, and he’s very happy with the fact that he has a lot more room to spread out.
The Aria Pillow-Top memory foam mattress measures 59.5″ x 79.5″ x 11″ which is plenty of luxurious comfort for Derek!
Some things I love about the Aria is that this elegant mattress eliminates pressure points and motion transfer (not that Derek has to worry about annoying a sleeping partner just yet since he doesn’t have one). It also promotes a good sleeping posture. I tend to sleep on my stomach or sides but because our mattress sags pretty low it’s very uncomfortable and to help prevent my mattress from tugging on my lower back (as it’s pulling me in) I tend to sleep with one leg bent and stretched out. I still wake up stiff and in severe pain. UGH! With the Aria, I wouldn’t have to worry about that!
The Aria is available in 6 sizes; Twin, Twin XL, Double, Queen, King, and California King.
