Winter is definitely not one of my favorite seasons. I tend to get cold often anyway (even in the summer when hubby turns on the air) so when the temperature drops outside I’m totally chilled to the bone. Brr… Cold is NOT good for arthritis!

That’s one of the main reasons I want to move to warmer climate— so I can warm up and stay that way. Yes, that day will come. In the meantime, you’ll find me wearing flannel lounge pants, a long sleeve shirt, socks, and more than likely bundled up in a blanket. hahaa!

1386101665_hs-1000-imoOh, we have heat here but there’s still a chill in the air, especially in our great room where the ceiling is vaulted. It’s the hottest room in the summer and the coldest in winter. Having an open floor plan doesn’t help much either. All of our heat rises up toward the ceiling, leaving me covered in goosebumps. Blah!

Well, that was until I got the opportunity to check out the Mojave Portable Infrared Quartz Heater from Heat Storm.  This awesome heater offers 1,000 watts of infrared heat and covers a 500 square foot space. That’s a pretty large area!

The great thing about this heater is that you can supplement your electric or gas heat, saving you money over time because you’re heating a frequently used room such a family room where you spend most of your time— allowing you to turn your other heat source down to a tolerable temperature.

  • Laminated black galvanized steel finish with aluminum accents
  • Heat settings control room temperature
  • Air purifying function through high efficiency lifetime filter
  • Remote control
  • Heat output: 3,500 BTU/h
  • Rated power: 1,000 watts, 8.3 Amps/120VAC
  •  3 year warranty
  • Measures 15″ W x 19.94″ D x 17.66″ H

I love how lightweight (at 24 pounds) the Mojave is in comparison with others I’ve seen. The caster wheels make it extremely portable too so if you want to move it to a different room, you can either carry it or push it to it’s new location.

Boy does this baby heat up the room a whole lot better and faster too— unlike an old space heater we owned in the past. It has a built-in blower so the heat is pushed out into the room rather than lingering around or above the heater itself. And because it uses a copper heat exchanger you get a soft, moist, and safe heat without reducing oxygen or humidity. The copper heat exchanger combines with existing humidity in the room.

One feature I think is fantastic is that Heat Storm encloses their heating elements inside quartz tubes with ceramic ends (eliminating exposed hot wires), which is then enclosed inside a steel chamber— giving you a heater that is not only great at heating your space but safe as well.

What makes this adequately sized heater even more amazing is the remote control. Now you no longer have to get up to change the temperature in the room. Just press a button and it’s done. Of course you’re always welcome to use the control panel on the face of the unit as well. The Mojaves heat settings control your rooms temperature, keeping it balanced with a difference of 2 to 3 degrees between the floor and ceiling. Awesome!

Guess what, this bad boy also includes an air purifying function — a high efficiency lifetime filter which is located within the back of the unit. With the push of two clips you can easily remove the filter and clean it when it becomes soiled. Let it air dry and place it back in the heater when you’re ready to use it.

The Mojave uses two heat exchangers whereas traditional heaters use only one. Plus, it’s a better use of energy. Each of Heat Storms infrared heaters feature “heat cube” technology which makes their heaters a lot smarter than the average heater. They automate how much energy should be used based on the ambient temperature. Not only do Heat Storm’s heaters feature a digital thermostat that’s sensitive within 1 degree F, they also know when to switch between full and partial power.

You can literally hear when the heater is balancing the temperature. This intelligence reduces large energy spikes— putting money back in your pocket!
