If you’re as big a fan of Disney’s “Cars” as we are I’m sure you rushed to theaters when Disney’s PLANES landed over the Summer.
What’s kind of funny is that I’ve always thought that cars and other means of transportation, especially semi’s looked like they had faces. I often imagined them having personalities and talking. That’s why I was SO intrigued when Cars came out. Great minds think alike, I guess. hehee!
Disney’s PLANES follows suit except a lot of the film takes place in the air for a fun, high flying adventure starring the main character, Dusty, a big-hearted, fast-flying crop duster.
It’s always been this little planes dream of being a racer but there’s one huge problem— he’s afraid of heights. When he learns of the upcoming ‘Wings Across the World’ race he decides to enter (against the advice of his trusted friends).
Dusty’s determined to prove he’s just as good as the other racers but first gets a little help from old Navy Corsair, Skipper Riley, along with a few other new friends he meets along the way. Skipper is dedicated to teaching Dusty all the acrobatic maneuvers he’ll need to reach the end and prove his worth.
Once the news gets out and Dusty builds popularity (due to his great sportsmanship), a defending champ named Ripslinger becomes jealous and will stop at nothing to see Dusty fail. He even goes as far as breaking off Dusty’s tail in-flight so he crashes into the sea. On his way to the bottom Dusty loses his antenna and gets lost.
Thanks to his friends he’s saved (though many of his parts are damaged) and the race continues. It’s not over for Dusty though. Many of his new fans bring him parts (better than the ones he once had) and he’s made new again.
Will Dusty get to continue in the race? Yes, but he’s penalized and must wait to get back up in the air. He’s ready though and his courage, as he’s nearing the end takes him to new heights. Does he win the race? Well, I can’t tell you that… you’ll have to watch and find out for yourself. hehee!
This is a great family film that focuses on friendship, dedication, hope, inspiration and courage. I highly recommend it!
