As you already know I’ve dealt with acne prone skin since puberty. And besides the regular breakouts, I deal with combination skin, making keeping my cosmetics looking fresh a real struggle.

Within 15-20 minutes of applying makeup my face starts to shine. So, throughout the day I find myself trying to find a mirror where I can reapply powder to cut down on the oiliness. It’s quite embarrassing! Especially when I have people approaching me and asking if I’m hot. No, not really. It’s just my disgustingly, overproducing pores that feel the need to put out too much oil. Ugh!

To help put an end to this daily ritual I decided to give Mia Mariu mineral makeup a try. I’ve heard great things about mineral makeup and was quite intrigued. But why Mia Mariu?

Of course when I first received my trio of products I wasn’t expecting any better results than what my regular cosmetics provide (due to the condition of my skin). I do want to mention that my typical cream foundation does contain oil, which I’m sure doesn’t help my situation. So, using an oil-free cream foundation would be very different, right? Let’s see…

The first time I tried the Perfecting Finish Mineral Cream Foundation ($23.00 – Vainilla) I realized I should have used a small amount of either a moisturizer or a primer because this foundation doesn’t go on as smoothly as my old one. It’s a bit dryer and because my face also has some flaky skin (which is odd since it’s SO oily), this was a bit of a problem. I wound up trying to apply more foundation than necessary to blot over the flakes which honestly made it look worse.

Ok, do over! I washed it off and prepped my skin first. This time the foundation went on much easier and more evenly. I really love how light and airy my skin feels with this foundation.

To “set” the look I applied a small amount of Perfecting Finish Mineral Loose Powder Foundation ($18.00 – Savanna) with a blending brush (the loose foundation powder does not come with an applicator). This is a normal step in my makeup application process. And it looked great!

After finishing the foundation of my makeup I applied the Mineral Eye Shadow duo colors ($18.00 – Valle Dorado). Now normally I apply 3 different eye color shades to help enhance my hazel eyes but I wanted to see just how well a mineral shadow worked. This one glides on quite well and wears throughout the day without fading or creasing. A huge plus since my old shadow cakes up thanks to the oil.

I continued on until all of my makeup was applied — the eyeliner, mascara, lip liner, lipstick and a tiny bit of bronzer.

Now because my first trial was a busy day (outside the home) I was a bit nervous about how this new makeup would wear. And to be honest, I did sneak a peek here and there but guess what… no shine! I was very impressed. I literally was able to go 7 hours without a touch up. And even just before I washed it off, there was only a minimal glimmer to my skin.

Will I continue using mineral makeup? Absolutely! With my old makeup, by the end of the day I felt like my pores were closed up due to the oil build up. It would make my face feel hot and itchy. Gross, right? I’ll say! And it did a number on the appearance of my skin. Obviously it caused more breakouts.

Well, I’m done with that icky oily makeup. From now on I will be using mineral makeup because it not only feels great on my skin, I’m noticing an improvement overall… less breakouts and a more even skin tone. Awesome!
