Today should be full of fun and laughter…

Oh who am I kidding? I’m going to be spending some time cleaning out my home office. And boy does it ever need it. It’s become a ‘catch all’ for anything that no one wants. Namely my kids after a rare day of cleaning their bedrooms.

I wonder if today will be as exciting as yesterday morning when I took the time to clean out our coat closet — another ‘catch all’ location.

Here’s the scenario — I gradually pulled out every single item in the closet and anything I didn’t want I tossed in or near an unstuffed trash bag. Well, as I was doing that hubby was secretly pulling things out of the trash and setting them aside as if he planned to keep them. “Uh, huh uh, that stuff is going in the trash“, I told him. “It’s been sitting in here for too long and not been used… so it’s going in the trash!

But we might need it“, he says. “Um, we don’t really need 15 knitted hats, especially when they don’t fit, so I think we can get rid of the kids’ hats and gloves they wore in 4th or 5th grade“. Considering the kids I’m referring to are now 18 and soon to be 20, I think it’s time to let go. What do you all think?

That went on for some time yesterday until I had to lay down the law. My hubby knows darned well we don’t need all of this stuff. And that’s what it’s become is just stuff that no one wants or needs. He’s a pack rat and it’s gotten out of hand. I don’t want to wind up on the Hoarders show. Ya know what I mean?

I’m Mrs. Clean, I can’t live in piles of crap. I’ll go insane. hahaa! It’s time to clean house here and by that I mean do a major clean up and consolidate. I need my space back and I plan to take it back with full force. Sorry hubby, but you lose! Now let’s get to work!

I’ll see all of you lovely readers later… if I can dig myself out of this mess!

LOL I JUST cleaned out our entire office. The hubs came home mid cleaning and said…Are you looking for something? I just laughed and said NO, I’m cleaning. 😀 It’s always a mess before it makes sense (I hope!)

My Beau wants to keep EVERYTHING! I hate the clutter. I like when he has to work late or goes out with a friend so I have extra time outside my work schedule to sort and toss. Half the time he doesn’t miss anything I threw away at all!

I have that problem with my daughter, I tell her to go through he closet and clean it out, and she tells me “but mom, I don’t have that much clothes”. I look inside and it is bulging at the seems. We have huge walk in closets, so you can only imagine the mess her closet is.

That’s funny! It’s the opposite around here. My husband sneaks to throw things out. I’m always positive that one day we’ll need the whatever it is.

See, that’s what I try to tell my hubby. If he can go without even realizing something is missing, then he didn’t need or want it in the first place. So, get rid of it. Right? hahaa!

All of our bedrooms have walk-in closets as well and they tend to fill them to the brims. It drives me nuts!

  • Haha too funny! Yes… I think you can get rid of the hats!

  • You wouldn’t listen to the little advise I have if you say my kitchen !!!! for the cabinets, I have found that if you thread a thin kitchen towel through the handle or loop one over the knob of every door that some of the messes stay away. A little more washing to do but I rotate them out so I don’t have to wash all them all the time… I have 7 cabinet doors, so 7 towels and then the hand towel dryer spot, I will wash the handtowel and the 2 most used door rags all the time and then move the less often used door towels down the line putting the new clean towels on the less used cabinets, so it’s not like I’m really washing all the towels everytime. for the floors, a couple of double sided throw rugs that don’t show stains easily, you can shake them out then flip them over when one side gets messy and not have to wash them as often. can you put a mirror up in front of the sink so that you can see what’s going on in the room and feel like you are part of the relaxing, non-washing dishes world?
