Getting a good nights sleep in my home is (to say the least) nearly impossible.

Why? For two main reasons — when I was 17 I was involved in not one but three car accidents and received injuries to my back, neck, shoulders, and right hip. Of course I healed over time (on the outside) but on the inside, the more I age, the more I feel the after effects of those injuries which takes me back to the days when the accidents first occurred. Not a very pleasant experience as you can imagine.

The second reason, our mattress is over 12 years old and unsupportive. Laying on it’s like laying in quick sand — you sink. This can do a real number on your entire body, not to mention your sleeping habits. And so I count sheep sleep with more than one pillow to ‘stay afloat’.

Why not just buy a new mattress? Well, the cost involved. We spent over $1,000 just on our current mattress (a double pillow top) alone and it lasted less than 6 months. Within that time it started breaking down. So, we’re in no hurry to spend a lot on a replacement.

Over the years I’ve tried a multitude of different pillows in all kinds of sizes and shapes in order to get a good nights sleep, but regardless of densities they all wound up the same — a failure and leaving me awake throughout the night.

Sure, some of those fluffier pillows start out being good but after a few uses they start looking like cotton pancakes and I’m back to square one. Sorry but my neck and back need something more reliable. Obviously if I’m not getting enough sleep I’m a total grouch.  That’s understandable, right?

Well, thanks to Sleep Number, I’ve been sleeping much more comfy for longer periods of time, and waking up feeling better rested than before. For the last week I’ve been sleeping with a European White Goose Down AirFit™ pillow, designed by Sleep Number. This pillow is unlike any I’ve ever seen or owned.

What makes THIS pillow so special is that it has a chamber filled with air that provides the most personalized sleep experience possible based on your comfort level, and individual sleeping position. The AirFit™ pillow combines the support and comfort of air with adjustability, allowing YOU to customize it even throughout the night if you shift positions.

European goose down surrounds the hidden air chamber for the ultimate in luxury. You get resilient down clusters for exceptionally high loft and improved support for maximum comfort.

Here’s How It Works:

  • In one corner of the pillow is a hidden, built-in valve that’s tucked away inside a flap of the exterior fabric. In order to personalize your pillow, just expose the valve, lay your head atop the pillow and turn the valve so it’s all the way open. This allows the pillow to redistribute the air inside the chamber, adjusting to your head and neck, so you get more support or less support wherever you need it.
  • Once you reach your desired comfort level, turn the valve to close it, recover the valve with the flap and enjoy!

The twist valve lets air in or out of the pillow — it self inflates. Pretty cool, eh?

Now the first thing I noticed when feeling my AirFit pillow for the first time is how firm it felt in the middle. It’s much harder than traditional pillows but that’s the great thing about this baby, it’s made to please because YOU control it’s density. Wow, I feel like I’m describing a love story.

Honestly, in the last week it’s been one true love story for me. I’m in love with this pillow. It’s ahh-mazing!!!

The first night I used it I wasn’t sure how firm I wanted it so I left it “as is” (at the setting in which it was shipped). But the next night I laid down, opened the valve all the way and let it do it’s thing. Then once I got all warm and toasty I shut the valve and went into a natural slumber. Ahh, I slept throughout the night with zero interruptions — no neck or shoulder pain and no numb arms or fingers. SCORE!

Typically my sleeping position is either on my tummy or my side. And before I received this awesome pillow I was flipping all over the place throughout the night like a fish out of water. My hubby complained all the time about my ninja moves. Sorry babe!

But after experimenting with the AirFit pillow I’m ‘swimming’ sleeping much better and my neck doesn’t hurt when I awake. Hubby doesn’t have any black eyes either. haha!

The lovely AirFit pillow is available in three options:

  • CoolFit™ Foam: Gel technology works within memory foam to create a cooler, more comfortable sleeping experience
  • Memory Fiber: Memory fiber provides improved air circulation to help prevent humidity and heat buildup
  • European White Goose Down: Resilient down clusters for exceptionally high loft and improved support for maximum comfort

If you’re tired of waking up tired, I highly recommend that you check out the AirFit adjustable pillows from Sleep Number. We spend about 1/3 of our lives in bed sleeping so why not make it the most enjoyable time of your life?

Many people focus so much time scoping out the best mattress their money can buy but don’t put much thought into their pillows. Well, getting the right pillow for YOU and your needs can actually change your quality of sleep too. Even if you bought a top of the line mattress, if you scrimped on your pillow, you can still wake up feeling sluggish and insanely tired. Your head and neck need support too and those cheapo dollar store pillows just don’t cut it.

BUY IT!

You can purchase an AirFit adjustable pillow online directly from Sleep Number by visiting www.sleepnumber.com.

Prices vary depending on the option you choose:

CoolFit Foam — $189.99 – $239.99
Memory Fiber — $199.99 – $249.99
European White Goose Down — $229.99 – $279.99

These pillows are available in sizes standard and king.

All Sleep Number pillows are currently on sale for 30% – 50% off so if you plan to replace or upgrade your pillow or was thinking of purchasing one as a gift, now is a good time to get them.

Try a Sleep Number AirFit pillow… your head and neck will thank you!

I never knew you could set the pillows to a comfort zone for yourself that is pretty nice. I really want to invest into a sleep number pillow and the bed. I can relate to you as well, I have been in 5 accidents and have a spine that curves this would probably help me while sleeping.

  • Anita Leibert says:

  • Jessica Fortner says:

Momma needs one of THESE for Christmas. Looks so comfty!

  • That pillow looks awesome! I go through pillows wayyyy too fast! But what I’d really like to know is how on earth you got into three accidents all in one year! Bless your heart and bless your parents’ hearts!

I totally know what you mean about old injuries coming back to bite you in the butt, sometimes literally. I have the same issue. Getting older is so not something I’m doing gracefully, but moaning all alongo the way.

  • Too bad that you had those accidents but I am so glad too that they were able to invent such a bed that can make you comfortable when sleeping. Guess you were destined for it. :)

  • With my back and neck issues, a sleep number bed would do a tremendous amount of help to get me a great nights sleep so I can be productive in the morning.
Thanks for the giveaway and happy holidays!

I have pillow issues/neck issues as it is, so this would be something I’d love to check out!

  • Eileen says:

Expensive, but to get a good nights sleep and maybe even help CHANGE your sleep habits…it’s gotta be worth it. Makes sense to have a valve to inflate or deflate with air to get it just right! Me, I need a flatter pillow to keep in alignment…I too have huge issues from a tango with a semi as a teen.

I might not be able to BUY this, but would not be afraid to ask as a gift from my husband. I’m worth it and he might get more sleep if I do too!
So funny, your sense of humor on this one Dee. I can relate and had a good chuckle!

  • Noelle says:

    Wow, looks so nice!

  • Jennifer Hedden says:

I never knew that Sleep Number had a pillow like this. This is exactly what I have been looking for. There is nothing worse to me than having an uncomfortable pillow. I have been trying all kinds of combinations and just when I think I found the perfect combo the pillow starts to flatten. This pillow sounds amazing the way the air is redistributed until it is comfortable for you. I would love to try this in the coolfit foam. I love to have my pillow nice and cool. Thank you for the great review!
