With the holiday season just around the corner you know I’m going to be doing tons of cooking.
The only problem with that is, I spend so much time and effort making up a list, shopping, preparing for, and cooking the dinner menu that I tend to forget about desserts. Say it ain’t so! Yes, unfortunately it is.
And to be honest, desserts are what I look forward to most. I mean, come on, who could resist those sweet confections? Certainly not me!
That’s why having a back-up plan or getting a little help from another source is the way to go. By now you’re probably familiar with Swiss Colony, a family-owned company who’s been in the business of creating and sending food gifts by mail since 1926.
After 80 years, Swiss Colony offers hundreds of festively packaged gifts ranging from specialty meats and cheeses, to chocolates, cheesecake and tons of other decadent desserts.
When it comes to Christmas, Swiss Colony has everything from traditional food gifts to unique treats that are perfect for sending to friends and loved ones (as we’ve done on different occasions) — even using to compliment holiday meals.
Just recently we received a “visit” from the Winking Santa torte and boy was that visit a quick one. It was bittersweet to say the least.
What do I mean by that? Well, when Santa came knocking, we gladly let him in. He was SO adorable and looked just as tasty as he did on the Swiss Colony website with that festively colored buttercream outer coating, all the way inward to the tender, moist layers of yellow cake, super smooth and creamy vanilla buttercream and strawberry filling. YUMMO!
We didn’t wait long to get ‘acquainted’ with this little visitor. Seriously, could you blame us? hehee!
Santa’s “sleigh” was packed extremely well. He was sealed in plastic wrap for freshness, but also gently placed inside a thick upper and side foam to prevent damage during transporting, and tucked away inside a larger packing box.
When I opened up the box and took a peek I was overcome with the desire to grab a taste so I quickly prepped my kitchen counter and within seconds I was getting my first bite. Mmmm…
This torte tasted SO good and fresh. It surpassed my expectations and that of the other members of my household. So much so that Derek snuck and ate the majority of it himself. Little brat! I wanted that! haha. It’s so NOT fair!
The tasty winking santa torte weighs weighed 1 pound 6 1/4 ounces and could ultimately feed 8-10 people when served in small slices. Here, it fed 4. Obviously it depends on how thick the slices are and, of course, who’s sneaking and eating them.
Quick Tip…
Turn the torte on it’s side to help prevent breaking the confectionery ink & icing on top!
Because the torte is chilled when shipped I recommend letting it come to room temperature before slicing and serving because otherwise the icing is a bit thick like candy melts and not so easy to cut. You’ll want santa to look pretty on your plate, right? Well, after you take your first bite you won’t care, all you’ll be focused on is gobbling it up. haha!
The only problem we had with the winking santa torte is…… it just didn’t last long enough!
BUY IT!
You can purchase the Winking Santa Torte directly from www.swisscolony.com. It retails for $24.95.
If you’re looking for a perfect gift to send to a loved one you can’t be with this Christmas or just because, I highly recommend the Winking Santa Torte or a number of other Swiss Colony gifts. They’re delicious and affordable, and are sure to put a smile on your recipients face.
Oh, and don’t stop there… order something tasty for yourself too!
