This year, this time of year is bittersweet for my family. See, not only is our daughter Gina going back to college (for her sophomore year) but our son Derek is a senior in high school.

Where in the world did time go?

I can’t help but get teary eyed as I think about how quickly my kids have grown and focus on what the future holds for all of them. I can still remember the days when my kids would hold my hand as we walked together (almost in sync) and talk about anything under the sun.

Now, they’re older, maturing at a fast pace and my hubby and I are faced with the reality that one day our ‘nest’ here will be empty and our children will be off leading adult lives of their own.

This is what we’ve raised them to do. So why am I feeling so down? Why am I not looking forward to tomorrow? I guess it’s because I’m facing a loss. A loss of what once was and it’s stings. But at the same time I am SO happy and proud of my kids. (I need a tissue!)

As parents, we can only want what’s best for our children and my hubby and I have always provided their needs and wants — as much as possible. This time of year is no exception. Sure there’s always that mad rush to get the essentials for school (and it’s pretty hectic) but later on we look back and think… it wasn’t THAT bad… it was all well worth it.
