All Star Vacation Homes

As a young girl I can still remember the excitement I felt when first opening a new box of cereal or cracker jacks. It was the anticipation of digging down deep to find the surprise inside that got me the most.

Sure, I ate the cereal or caramel coated popcorn but nothing was more enjoyable than seeing what my prize was. Would it be a temporary tattoo? A compass? A magnifying glass? Or better yet… a RING? Opening the wrapper was like opening gifts on Christmas. Being a girl, of course I wanted the jewelry but most of the time my little heart was crushed when I revealed a sticker or tattoo. NOooo… that’s not that exciting!

Now that I’m older I still like being the first to open those boxes. hehee!

Something else I enjoy — candles. There’s nothing more relaxing to me than a tantalizing scent to fill my home. Ahhh!

You’re probably wondering how candles have anything to do with my love of childish toys and trinkets, right? Well, if you know anything about Diamond Candles, you know that they’ve taken the same concept of hiding a surprise inside — but to a whole new level.

That’s right! Every earth friendly, all natural soy candle that Diamond Candles creates contains a ring inside. And the best part is the values range from $10 up to $5,000. Isn’t that ahh-mazing?

I don’t know about you but I love my candles and I LOVE jewelry so combining the two together just makes me all giddy inside. hehee!

Recently I had the opportunity to check out a Carnival Candy scented candle from Diamond Candles and I can’t tell you how thrilled I was when I first saw the box. I tripped over our kitties’ toy mouse just trying to get to the door because I knew what was waiting for me on the porch.

I’ll tell you, the anticipation really builds when you’re trying to open one of these babies. They’re wrapped SO darned good (to protect them during shipping) that it seems like forever before you get to the center. You cut through packing tape, thick bubble wrap, and several layers of thick brown paper to FINALLY reveal your new candle. Oh my gosh… gimme gimme!!!

And there it is in it’s shiny glass jar — a pretty, dark pink candle. I removed the lid and was taken over by the sweet scent of cotton candy. YUM! I wanted to take a bite it smelled SO GOOD.

When I took a closer look and spotted that golden foil nearly smack dab in the center of the jar I couldn’t help but think to myself — “dang it, why couldn’t it have floated to the very top so I could just remove it right away?” “Do I grab a spoon and dig out my treasure?” Oh yea baby, that’s what I wanted to do. But I kept my cool. I played it off like it wasn’t driving me insane inside. I was dying to know what kind of ring I got.

I headed to the kitchen to grab some matches although I knew I wanted to grab a sharp object and remove that darned ring — gravity seemed to want to pull me toward the knife drawer. It was destiny. hahaa. Nope, I lit my candle and waited.

Gina came home and spotted the candle right way. “A DIAMOND CANDLE… oh my God (yes I had pre-informed her about Diamond Candles). I want to dig the ring out!!!”, she said. Umm, “NO Gina, we’re going to wait.”, I told her. She had no qualms about acting like a kid on Christmas day. hahaa!

After 2 hours the anticipation had eaten her up. She begged and begged me to let her dig the ring out. “NO”, I kept telling her. “But mom, the melted wax will fill in the empty space and you won’t even be able to tell” she says. Nope! I wouldn’t budge. But Miss Sneakypants took advantage of the fact that I’m the only one in the house that cooks so while I was fixing dinner she managed to fish the foil-wrapped ring from the glass jar. When I caught her I pretended to be, well, unhappy but in all honesty, I was just as excited as she was to get it unwrapped to reveal it’s contents. There… I admit it.

I seriously could not even get close enough to that ring to see what it looked like. Gina has such a good grip on it and was leaning down toward the kitchen counter as if she was dissecting it. She peeled away the foil, gently wiped away the wax that had gotten inside and there it was… a silver banded ring with glistening little stones. After carefully inspecting the ring she handed it to me. “I don’t know if it’s real or not mom”, she said.

After a closer look I was saddened to find it’s a lesser value ring but it’s still ALL MINE. hehee! It’s actually pretty cute. A “diamond” filled crescent moon with a “diamond” filled star. I’m not sure of the exact value but my guess is that it’s probably below $100. Not a big deal! Sure, I wanted to get my hands on one of those real diamonds but hey, this was a lot of fun and I still have my carnival candy scented candle that I get to enjoy for at least a few weeks.

Maybe I’ll let my creative side kick in and do something really snazzy with the glass jar once the candle is spent. If I do I’ll post about it later. hehee!
