Kids love spending time outdoors, especially when the weather is warm and sunny. It gives them a chance to be active, creative and just enjoy nature.
Our weather here has been a little strange — a few days of summerlike temperatures during the week that brought everyone outside, and then just in time for the weekends it was back to the 40-50 degree range and rainy, keeping everyone inside and feeling sick.
The last 4 days have been rather nice and since we FINALLY had a nice, warm weekend we were also able to check out the new Fort Slide-Away that Step2 sent us. What fun!
PRODUCT FEATURES:
You get a slide for active play and an added fort-like tent that allows kids to slip away for a game of hide-and-seek, a secret “club” or just a place to hang out and rest. Toss in a few snacks and they’ll be all set.
ASSEMBLY PROCESS:
There’s several tiny parts in that box!
This item contained a few more parts than I had expected and was a little tougher to put together than I had anticipated but with the help of my hubby we got it done within 30-40 minutes.
Step 1: Assemble the slide — this was fairly simple. Attach the slide portion to the ladder, then the handles and the rear base.
Step 2: Attach the fort/tent — there’s a lot more involved with this step. And we found that not all of the premarked locations for screws were usable because the fabric would not stretch at all. It appeared that the fabric was cut too short so we had to drill our own holes to prevent ripping the material.
After making several adjustments with the tent it was finally complete and ready for some action.
Sorry about the color!
Someone decided to change the settings just before I recorded the video.
I’m not sure which part the kids like best but they sure enjoy it. Of course the fort provides some shade on those really hot, humid days like we had yesterday during filming. It wasn’t a problem though because after they got their fill of the Fort Slide-Away, we retreated to the nice, air conditioned house and feasted on some homemade soft serve ice cream. Yummy!
I really like that the tent is vented with mesh so when the wind picks up a little the kids get a nice breeze blowing through (and mom can check in on the kids if she wishes). Plus, on each side of the fort, there are sewn-on ties that allow you to tie back one “door” on either side to allow more air flow.
Another great feature is the waterproof “floor” that helps keep your kids clothes dry after a rain and provides additional protection from the ground. And although the slide has a nice wide base, the set comes with anchors for added safety.
The Fort Slide-Away is perfect for even small yards and provides an all-in-one play place for boys and girls!
BUY IT!
The Fort Slide-Away retails for $139.99 (currently on sale for $125.99) and can be purchased directly at www.step2.com or in brick-and-mortar stores such as Toys R Us nationwide.
