Mohawk 5′ x 8′ Ink Swirl Cocoa Shag Area Rug + GIVEAWAY

As part of our Spring clean-up this year we’ve decided to redecorate our kids’ rooms and do some major indoor painting.

The thing is, we don’t want to invest a lot of money because as soon as the opportunity arises, we plan to sell our home and move to Florida. That’s something my hubby and I have discussed for the last few years. It’s actually always been a dream of his — to live in warmer climate. So, whenever it’s possible, we’re going for it.

In the meantime, we’re cleaning up our 12 year old home, redecorating and reorganizing. Over the years we’ve collected SO much stuff that it’s time to do a thorough walk through and get rid of things we no longer need.

Gina’s room is one that will get a total re-do here in the next few weeks. She’s grown quite tired of living with the “Lizzy McGuire (a Hilary Duff tv show) wall painting that I did way back when she was in elementary school. hahaa!

She loved that show back then but now that she’s 19, um, she’s way beyond outgrown it.

Last summer I bought Gina some new bedding — something for older girls. Her favorite color is blue and her new bedding has plenty of blue — navy, teal and sky blue. It has sort of a tie-dye pattern and she loves it!

One thing I knew I wanted to add to her room to give it a more pulled-together look is a big shag rug. One with a funky sort of pattern, to add some ‘texture’ to her room.

I seriously think I found that in the Ink Swirl Cocoa shag rug from Mohawk Home. It’s full of swirls and loops and has none other than BLUE. Woohoo! Obviously it contains beige and chocolate brown but I thought the rug was quite cool.

Gina really loves the bold, free-flowing design. She says it has this psychedelic look to it. And just like me, she loves unique things. I think this rug fits that category quite well. What do YOU think? hehee.

Obviously since this rug was being ordered online rather than in a store, I wasn’t exactly sure how it would match up with Gina’s pre-existing colors and decor. It’s a little hard to judge just by measuring and envisioning an invisible rug. So, it would really be a surprise as to how it looked once it got here.

Now to paint those walls and replace the window coverings!

I chose a 5′ x 8′ because I wanted it to cover a large portion of her room. Who doesn’t love walking on, or running their bare toes and fingers through a fluffy shag rug? It’s very relaxing in my opinion. It kind of tickles actually. hehee!

When the Ink Swirl rug showed up I was anxious to get it out of the thick plastic packaging and place it in Gina’s room. I couldn’t wait to see if I made the right choice in colors. I could have went with a solid colored rug but because good quality rugs tend to last longer than bedding, I knew after a period of time Gina would replace her current bedding and who knows what color pattern that would be so I went with the Ink Swirl.

THE FINAL SAY!

Color-wise, these are slightly different than what I saw on my monitor (which is normal), yet still attractive and the pattern is awesome. The thickness is beyond what I had expected. We LOVE it! I knew that Mohawk made some really great rugs but this one is definitely much better in quality than I had imagined. I am quite sure it will last a long, long time with proper care. It’s thick and oh SO soft and plush!

YES… I ran my fingers and toes through it! hehee.
I seriously need to get one of these for MY room!!!

Now that Gina has a new rug and bedding, it will be easier to choose which paint color(s) we want to go with. Of course since it’s HER room, she will have the final say. What color(s) would YOU choose?
