Exposing children to music typically starts at an early age. In some cases as early as before birth.
I know with my kids it did because I was always placing headphones and musical toys on my belly and letting them hear different tones. At times I honestly thought they were dancing to the beat because of their movements. hehee!
I truly believe that music is great for kids of all ages because it gets them up and gets them moving whether they’re clapping their hands, stomping their feet or actually making dancing movements. It’s great exercise!
Some children may be a little apprehensive about joining in this activity due to shyness. If your child is one of those, boy do I have great news for you. We were recently introduced to an animated DVD series that I just know your children will love. This series, The Tuneables, is unlike anything I’ve ever seen before but we love it.
WHAT MAKES THIS ANIMATED SERIES DIFFERENT THAN OTHERS?
The Tuneables, created by the Music Intelligence Project, takes a unique approach to music education through the creation of talking instrument characters. Each character has it’s own personality and teaches 2 human children, Annie and Max, the ABC’s of tones, melodies, beats, rhythm, and voice. Your child will memorize the sounds that each instrument makes without even realizing they’re learning so they’re able to easily recognize each instrument later on.
Another great thing about this series is that it teaches children listening skills. They learn aural perception, kinesthetic response, and verbal association, or as the Tuneables call it, “hear it, do it, name it.”
WHO’S WHO?
Meet the Tuneables gang…
Here, take a closer look…
Really cute, huh?
The Tuneables: “I Love Music” DVD’s are fun and engaging for preschool children and beyond. Each 30 minute segment encourages children to participate in songs and activities and because the instruments repeat each bit, your child is sure to remember and follow along with no trouble at all.
In no time your child is learning classic songs such as “This Old Man“, “Teddy Bear” and the “ABC Medley.” Not to mention moving to the beat.
To be honest, I learned some things myself. hehee! The characters really draw you in and make you want to learn more about music and that’s the amazing thing about this DVD series. Children learn age-appropriate, carefully sequenced curriculum. Oh, and don’t worry if you aren’t a music scholar. The DVD’s include tips for parents that are designed to help extend the music learning into your home.
I highly recommend The Tuneables DVD series for those of you with children aged 3+. The objectives align with the K-12 National Standards for quality music education programs so even if your children are older, they can still learn the fundamentals and have a great time doing it too. Of course teens would probably stick their noses up (what would their friends think?) but they surely couldn’t deny learning a few things they didn’t already know. hehee!
